Day 1. Monday, October 22nd, 2007

 

11:30 a.m.

The Mortenson Center Associates arrive at Eppley Airfield, Omaha on American Airlines Flight 4003. [Eppley Airfield's Website]

 

The Nebraska Library Commission greeters will meet them with our bus.

12:30 p.m.

Lunch at Wheatfield’s in Omaha. [One Pacific Place Website]

1:45 p.m.

There’s just time for a quick tour of Boys’ Town in Omaha before the group heads to Lincoln, 50 mile away. [Girls and Boys Town]

3:00 p.m.

Mortenson Associates and Nebraska Librarians check in at the Cornhusker Marriott Hotel.

5:00 p.m.

Meet in the hotel lobby, preparatory to boarding the bus to go to dinner at the James Arthur Vineyards in Raymond.

  

 


  

 

Day 2. Tuesday, October 23rd, 2007

 

8:00 a.m.

Gather in the hotel lobby. The group will walk 2 blocks through the Lincoln Skywalk to the Atrium Building, where the Nebraska Library Commission (NLC) offices are located.

We’ll be meeting in Suite 206, the Atrium Meeting Room. There’ll be a Breakfast buffet there.

8:30 a.m.

Laura Johnson, Continuing Education Coordinator, NLC, will go over our schedule, etc.

8:45 a.m.

Rod Wagner, Library Commission Director, will welcome the group.

9:00 a.m.

Clara Budnik Sinay will speak on International Librarianship.

9:45 a.m.

Richard Miller, Library Development Director, NLC, will explain about the small-group projects that participants will carry on after the institute.

10:15 a.m.

Break

10:30 a.m.

Mary Ann Mavrinac, chief librarian, University of Toronto at Mississauga, will present the Campbell Leadership Descriptor.

12:00 p.m.

Buffet Lunch in the meeting room.

1:00 p.m.

Mary Ann continues.

2:15 p.m.

Break

2:30 p.m.

Michael Sauers, Technology Innovation Librarian at the NLC, will speak on "Library 2.0: Creating a Borderless Library".

3:45 p.m.

Break

4:00 p.m.

Michael continues.

5:00 p.m.

Free time.

6:45 p.m.

We’ll meet in the hotel lobby, and then the group will go to dinner at Lazlo's in the Lincoln Haymarket District.

 

 


 

 

Day 3. Wednesday, October 24th, 2007

 

8:00 a.m.

There’s a map of the skywalk in your packet, if you want to walk to the Atrium Meeting Room. Or, an NLC guide will show the way.

We’ll have a Breakfast buffet and a quick overview of today’s schedule.

8:30 a.m.

Kathryn J. Deiss, Content Strategist at the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL), will speak on “Personal Leadership and Communication”.

10:30 a.m.

Break

10:45 a.m.

Kathryn continues.

12:00 p.m.

Pizza for lunch today in the Atrium.

1:30 p.m.

This afternoon we’re going to tour the University of Nebraska Love Library and see some of the interesting new technologies they’re using and exploring.  See the Agenda for our visit below.

1:30 p.m.

Welcome and Instructions - Joan Giesecke, Dean of Libraries.  Held in the Library Instruction Room.

 2:00 p.m.

Day 4. Thursday, October 25th, 2007

 

7:00 a.m.

Check out of the Cornhusker Hotel. Take all of your luggage with you.

7:15 a.m.

Board Bus for Kearney, about 130 miles from Lincoln. We’re going to attend the Nebraska Library Association/Nebraska Education Media Association Annual Conference 2007.

Breakfast on the go. Carry it with you to eat on the bus.

7:30 a.m.

The bus is leaving!

9:30 a.m.

Register at the NLA/NEMA Conference. Attend whichever programs you like.

12:00 p.m.

Lunch in the Holiday Inn-Kearney dining room.

1:40 until

2:30 p.m.

PRESENT “Librarianship Across Borders” in Ballroom I.

4:00 p.m.

Check in to our rooms.

4:30 p.m.

Meet in small groups to finalize plans for group projects.

6:00 p.m.

Meet in the hotel lobby to board the bus to take us to our last dinner.

6:15 p.m.

Dinner at the Cellar, where groups will present the projects they intend to do.

 

 


 

 

Day 5. Friday, October 26th, 2007

 

7:00 a.m.

Breakfast for whoever is interested in the Holiday Inn dining room.

7:45 a.m.

Board bus to Grand Island, Lincoln, and Omaha.

8:00 a.m.

The bus is leaving!

9:00 a.m.

We’ll tour the Stuhr Museum of the Prairie Pioneer in Grand Island. They’ve agreed to also show us their library.

11:30 a.m.

Lunch at the museum.

12:00 p.m.

Board bus to Lincoln.

1:45 p.m.

Drop off Nebraska librarians in Lincoln. Good-bye!

2:00 p.m.

Leave Lincoln.

3:15 p.m.

Arrive/Check In at the Omaha airport.

4:35 p.m.

Mortenson Associates will leave on American Airlines flight 4030. Adios!
